Set against a vast desert landscape, Bariya, meaning “the wilderness,” lives up to its name as it is one of the sustainable restaurants at Six Senses Southern Dunes resort, one of the Red Sea Global destinations.
We were welcomed at the resort by an atmosphere inspired by nature. The space is layered with lush greenery, earthy brown tones, bamboo accents, and delicate palm tree embroidery details that create a warm, organic beauty.
Starting with still water served in traditional clay cups added a rustic touch to the experience.
Although there is outdoor seating available, the summer heat made the indoor space far more inviting. Inside, the ambience is lively yet relaxed, with fun, uplifting music that enhances the mood without overpowering it.
We began at the international cuisine restaurant with freshly baked homemade rosemary bread, served warm alongside three flavorful dips: harissa, Saudi duggah, and za’atar.
For drinks, I ordered the homemade peach kombucha. It was refreshingly tangy with sweet notes that balanced it well.
One of the standout starters was the dates and harissa hummus, a creative twist on the classic. The natural sweetness of the dates paired beautifully with the gentle heat of the harissa.
For soup, I chose the wild mushroom option. Served with rice in a bowl, the hot broth is poured over it at the table, creating a comforting and interactive moment. The flavors were rich and earthy, with a subtle Japanese-inspired touch that made it feel refined and unique.
Moving on to the mains, the kadai chicken, inspired by Indian butter chicken, was deeply flavorful and beautifully spiced. It was served with soft, warm, and delicious buttered chapatis. The dish had a notable heat, but it was suited to my taste as I truly enjoy spicy food.
Alongside it, the tagliolini pasta with citrus, tomato, basil, and prawns offered a lighter contrast. The citrus notes complemented the sweetness of the prawns and the freshness of the basil.
To finish, I went with the tiramisu. Perfectly balanced and indulgent, it delivered a bold, rich coffee flavor that I absolutely loved. Paired with a cup of espresso, it was the ideal ending to the meal.
The staff were attentive, friendly, and prompt, especially Ladya, who took great care of us and recommended some of the most interesting items on the menu, which truly enhanced our experience.
