ABU DHABI: The UAE on Wednesday strongly condemned what it described as hostile statements by Iran, reaffirming that its international relations and defense partnerships are a “purely sovereign matter.”
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected allegations by Tehran that Abu Dhabi’s cooperation with the US threatened Iran’s security and national interests, stressing that no party has the right to use such ties as a pretext for interference or threats.
The ministry said the UAE “condemns in the strongest terms” remarks issued by Iran’s Foreign Ministry, reiterating its categorical rejection of any claims targeting its sovereignty, national security, or independent decision-making.
It added that any rhetoric involving direct or indirect threats to the country’s security, civilian and critical infrastructure, or the safety of its citizens, residents and visitors constitutes unacceptable conduct that violates international law and the principles of good neighborliness.
The UAE also said that it reserves its full sovereign, legal, diplomatic and military rights to respond to any “threat, allegation or hostile act.”
The exchange comes after the UAE reported being targeted in recent days following several weeks of relative calm since a US-announced ceasefire with Iran.
Tehran has denied carrying out attacks against the UAE, but warned it would deliver a “crushing response” if any action were launched from Emirati territory against it
