DUBAI: The UAE said on Tuesday that its air defenses were dealing with missile and drone attacks launched from Iran.
"The sounds heard in scattered areas of the country are the result of the UAE's air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones," the defense ministry said.
The missiles and drones originated from Iran, the ministry said.
The alert came a day after the UAE had been attacked by 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles and four drones launched from Iran.
A drone injured three people and caused a fire in Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, the authorities said.
The UAE's foreign ministry said the attacks were a "dangerous escalation" and that the country reserved the right to respond.
The attacks on Monday were the first strikes against the UAE from Iran since soon after a ceasefire agreement between Iran and the US and Israel came into force on April 8.
The strikes were widely condemned by Middle East nations and countries around the world.
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman condemned the attacks on the UAE during a call with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
