PIF to end funding for LIV Golf at end of 2026 season
  • PIF said the level of long-term investment required by LIV Golf was no longer aligned with its current strategy

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund said on Thursday that it would fund LIV Golf only through to the remainder of the 2026 season, according to a statement seen by Arab News.

PIF said that the level of long-term investment required by LIV Golf was no longer aligned with its current strategy, citing shifting priorities and broader macroeconomic conditions.

The league’s board has established a committee of independent directors to explore strategic options beyond PIF’s funding horizon.

Despite the move, PIF said that LIV Golf had “substantially grown the game globally” and delivered a “transformational and positive impact,” adding that it had “forever changed the game of golf for the better.”

The fund reiterated its commitment to investing internationally, including maintaining sport as a priority sector, with existing and future investments still planned.
