Saudi video gets one million hits in 10 days

A video clip posted by blogger Zayed Al-Otaibi received more than a million hits in just 10 days.
The clip produced on a poem written by Muhammad Al-Amri and recited by Saleh Al-Hewali, has in fact registered over 1,150,000 visits. Its extraordinary popularity is attributed to the beauty of diction discussing a theme related to the disintegrating social relations of the present generation in contrast to the natural and simple ways of the past generation, Al-Sharq daily reported yesterday.
Al-Amri said he was impelled to write the poem by the pain and anguish created by modern social life, disintegrating families and vanishing neighborly relations. Though he did not think that noble values have disappeared totally, especially among the followers of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the advancement of modern technology has diverted people’s attention from social values. He also speaks in his poem about the nostalgia for the past and the lifestyle of our forefathers.
The poet also appeals to the viewers to cling to their traditional cultural and religious values whatever changes the present brings to their living situations.
Expressing delight at the unprecedented success of the clip, its producer Al-Otaibi attributed its popularity to the talent of the poet to resonate with the sentiments of common man.
