754,570 qualify for housing support

The Ministry of Housing has finalized the list of Saudis eligible to receive housing support with some 754,570 citizens standing to benefit from the government scheme from a total of 960,397 applicants.
Minister of Housing Shwaish Al-Dwaihi said that the list had been finalized by a team working around the clock to give priority to the deserving candidates and according to a point-based criterion which has been published in various media outlets. He said that efforts have also been made to make the mechanism of selecting applicants as transparent as possible.
Makkah topped the list for the largest number of housing beneficiaries at 195,658, followed by Riyadh with 153,932. The Northern Border Province registered the least number with 5,748 beneficiaries.
There were a number of reasons for rejecting applications including failure to update the civil status data such as divorcees who couldn’t produce marriage or divorce documents; widows who didn’t have the death certificate of their late husband, in addition to applicants who were residing outside the Kingdom for more than 90 days.
Applications of those who had a land deed but transferred their property five years ago also failed to make it to the list of beneficiaries of the housing scheme.
The ministry has urged these categories to fulfill the requirements in order to be included in the waiting list. The ministry has also asserted that any support to the beneficiaries will be given with full transparency.
Al-Dwaihi appreciated the continuous support of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to the Ministry of Housing and Crown Prince Salman and Deputy Crown Prince Muqrin for their concern for the welfare of the citizens.
