The Jeddah municipality plans to construct five new intersections on Prince Majed Road at a cost of SR1 billion to ease traffic congestion, a senior official said recently.
Mohamed Al-Buqami, spokesman of the municipality, said the intersections would extend down to the corniche. There would also be other projects carried out to build a highway along the same route, linked to the Jeddah-Laith Highway. Contractors would start the projects in the next few weeks.
Al-Buqami said the intersections would link with Old Makkah Road, Al-Falah Bridge, Television Street, King Faisal Street, South Corniche and then Al-Khamra. It would take the form of a ring road and run parallel to Al-Haramain Road.
He said that the construction time frame depends on how quickly the city is able to assess and compensate people for property appropriations. He urged citizens to cooperate by submitting their documents. The city plans to pay compensation of SR5,000 per square meter.
Al-Buqami said the designs for the project have been completed. There would be three lanes in both directions, he said.
