The maiden event of the Marine Sports by the Saudi coastguards kicked off in Jeddah on Monday. The 10-day event includes the participation of the Saudi Coast Guard, the Royal Navy personnel and other teams from across the Kingdom.
“The spectacular Marine Sport event is aimed to enhance the water gaming spirit which will positively contribute to all aspects of the coastal guards,” Col. Najhi Al Jahani of the Saudi Coastguards in the Makkah region said.
He told Arab News that the coast guards in collaboration with Prince Nawaf, chief of the general presidency of Youth welfare in the Kingdom are conducting the event under the auspices of Admiral Awad Al Aradi, who is also president of the Saudi Arabian Maritime Sports Federation.
Col. Jahani said, “The Saudi coastguard employees are playing an important role in water sports and represent the Kingdom in such events.”
Col. Hamad Al Jaied explained the International norms and rules in the water games which according to him are important to achieve success.
He added that some of the popular marine sports that participating teams will play are sailing, kayaking, free diving, Jet skiing, boating, fishing, rowing, and racing rows in singles and doubles.
Col. Jahani said that several lectures are also planned during the event that will impart information about the high seas.
The Saudi Arabian Maritime Sports Federation (SAMSF) was established in 2008 to form a solid organizational base for maritime sports in Saudi Arabia. The SAMSF aims to provide maritime sports to both residents and tourists.
The SAMSF helps by providing facilities and organizing events for many sports looking to develop in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It also supports and develops athletes in all maritime disciplines to compete on an international level.
