The Olympia Martial Arts Academy will have its official opening in Jeddah on Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. at Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital situated on Palestine Road.
To kick-start the grand opening, there will be an array of exciting martial arts shows organized by Capt. Khalid Anany and Capt. Mohammed Abbas for kids and adults, including martial arts weaponry and related merchandise for sale to the public.
“Martial arts is important for children and adults to learn because it helps them strengthen their mental as well as spiritual and physical abilities,” said Captain Mohammed Abbas, a martial arts trainer in Jeddah who learnt the art-form in the United States during his university training in Engineering.
Commenting on the overall benefits of learning martial arts, he said: “See, martial arts has lots of thinking and understanding to do while learning it and that improves the mind’s power. That power means that children will do better at school as their overall comprehension is increased, and adults will perform better at work and perhaps become more productive and innovative.”
He also praised other countries who are pioneers and representatives of this art form by saying: “Martial arts in essence improves the quality of a society as a whole and the best examples would be Japan, China and Korea…innovative societies. Nevertheless, martial arts also teaches one how to control his anger and how to respect others...It is more like a lifestyle, a healthy one.”
A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mix Martial Arts seminar will be conducted during the sporting fiesta by Bruce Harvard, also known as Master Asu who holds the highest honorary degree in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in North Africa and Arab-Middle East region.
He is considered one of the best masters in the world of Arab origin and has graduated many UFC champions from around the world. He will officiate the opening of the Olympia Martial Arts Academy.
The seminar which will run for three days is offered for kids and adults at the Olympia Gym, and will provide an overview of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which has been included as a recognized sport at the Olympic Games, including Mix Martial Arts by Master Asu for beginner and advanced students. Internationally recognized certificates will be presented to all attendees of the seminar.
The Olympia Martial Arts Academy will provide Karate, Kung Fu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu programs and lessons throughout the year. More styles are expected to be added soon to the sports roster.
“Martial Arts in general is good to learn because it teaches one how to defend himself without hurting or humiliating the offender,” said Captain Mohammed Abbas, commenting on the benefit of learning the sport. The event is open for public and is free of charge. Registering for the three-day seminar that runs for three hours per day costs SR400. Video-taping the seminar for future references will be permitted by the academy.
