Legal aid cell planned to assist Indians in Eastern Province

Indian Ambassador Hamid Ali Rao assured the Indian workers in Dammam of all assistance to mitigate their problems.
Rao was visiting the Eastern Province to get first hand information related to their work conditions and problems.
Prominent members of the Indian community were present at the meeting that took place at the Indian school in Dammam. Sibi George, deputy chief of mission, also took part in the discussions.
In one of the memos submitted to the ambassador, members of the Federation of Overseas Indian Organizations, urged the embassy to focus on the poor conditions of detainees at the deportation center regarding food, drinking water, medication, treatment, and washrooms facility.
Rao said a number of hospitals and dispensaries are willing to provide treatment to Indians at the deportation center.
The ambassador said he has already taken up the matter concerning the deportation center with authorities and expressed willingness to have similar meetings in future. During the meeting, the embassy also expressed willingness to launch a legal aid cell at the earliest in the Eastern Province.
The delegation, which included Khader Chengala, Mirza Zaheer Baig, Abdul Hameed, Suresh Baharathy, Abdul Sattar, M.A. Waheed and Abraham Valiyakala, called for speeding up the issuance of emergency certificates to the detainees at the deportation center.
Other suggestions included arrangements for the final exit of illegal detainees with no restriction on their entry to other GCC countries.
