Prince Khaled bin Bandar, commander of ground forces, has been appointed new governor of the Riyadh region. His appointment follows the death of Prince Sattam on Tuesday.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah issued a royal decree yesterday to this effect. It made Prince Turki bin Abdullah deputy governor. Both will have ministerial ranks.
The king relieved Prince Muhammad bin Saad, the existing deputy governor of Riyadh, of his position upon his request, the SPA reported quoting the decree.
The third son of Prince Bandar, Prince Khaled, was appointed commander of the army in 2011 after being promoted to the rank of general. He is a graduate of the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, UK.
Prince Turki, the seventh son of King Abdullah, is the chairman of the board of directors of the Saudi Equestrian Fund.
He has worked for the Royal Saudi Air Force as a pilot with the rank of a colonel. His efforts to win pardon for people on the death row have won applause.
