Rixos Murjana: an all-inclusive experience on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast
  • The Turkish brand’s new addition to the Kingdom’s luxury tourism sector offers plenty, especially for families

JEDDAH: There is something liberating about an all-inclusive holiday. No mental calculations at every meal, no debates about whether to book another activity, and no surprise charges waiting at checkout. That is exactly the philosophy behind Rixos Murjana in King Abdullah Economic City, which is being positioned as one of Saudi Arabia’s leading family destinations.

From its extensive water park to one of the Kingdom’s largest kids’ clubs, to a private beach and extensive wellness facilities, this is a property designed to keep guests entertained from morning until night.

The arrival experience sets the tone. Valet staff quickly take care of luggage, check-in is efficient, and within minutes guests are immersed in the resort’s relaxed atmosphere. The bright and airy lobby blends contemporary luxury with subtle nods to Hijazi heritage. Large wooden arches line the corridors, guiding guests towards the rooms and elevators with a design that feels both local and refined. Outside, rawasheen-inspired windows and balconies are integrated into the resort’s façade, creating a distinctive sense of place that reflects both Saudi architectural heritage and the brand’s Turkish origins.

I checked into a senior suite overlooking both the gardens and the sea. At 95 square metres, it felt more like an apartment than a hotel room. The king-sized bed was exceptionally comfortable, the living room offered ample room to relax, and the two balconies provided peaceful spots to enjoy the Red Sea views. Practical touches such as a well-stocked minibar, tea and coffee facilities, fast Wi-Fi, bathrobes and quality toiletries added to the overall convenience. A QR code provided daily updates on activities and events around the resort, making it easy to plan each day.

The resort’s most popular attraction is the water park. It is large enough to occupy families for an entire day with adrenaline-fuelled slides for thrill-seekers, a wave pool, a winding adventure river and dedicated splash zones for younger children.

I found myself repeatedly losing track of time there, which is always a good sign. Whether floating along the river, watching families race down slides or simply relaxing poolside, the atmosphere is energetic without feeling overwhelming.

Another standout feature is the Rixy Kids Club. Rather than offering a handful of repetitive activities, its program changes daily and includes everything from science experiments and painting workshops to treasure hunts, cooking classes and mini discos. It was consistently busy with children fully engaged in activities throughout the day. Teenagers are equally well catered for, with gaming tournaments, sports competitions, art workshops, movie nights and social events.

Dining is often where all-inclusive resorts struggle, but Rixos Murjana delivers a solid experience. Most of my meals were taken at Terra Mare, the resort’s international buffet restaurant. Breakfast offered an extensive and familiar selection, while lunch and dinner featured a wide range of cuisines, including barbecue, Chinese, Indian, and Turkish dishes.

For those seeking a quieter experience, there is plenty beyond the family-focused attractions. The adults-only pool offers a more relaxed environment, while the Exclusive Sports Club hosts everything from sunrise yoga and CrossFit sessions to boxing, pilates and sound-healing classes.

One of the highlights of my stay was the Anjana spa. Inspired by traditional Turkish wellness rituals, it includes a hammam, sauna, steam room, ice fountain and relaxation areas. Access to these facilities is included, while treatments such as massages and facials cost extra. Even without booking a treatment, it’s an ideal place to unwind after a busy day.

Of course, the big question with any all-inclusive resort is whether it represents good value for money. Suites at the Rixos Murjana generally range between SR3,000 and SR4,000 ($800–$1,070) per night, while premium suites and villas cost more.

When you factor in accommodation, meals, drinks, entertainment, activities, kids’ programmes, beach access and water park entry, the value becomes easier to appreciate, particularly for families who would otherwise be paying separately for multiple activities.

Would I return? Absolutely. It’s a resort that makes it easy to live in the moment and let the details take care of themselves.
