VCM announces partnership to accelerate sustainable industrial growth in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Regional Voluntary Carbon Market Co. announced a collaboration with Lenovo and ClimeCo to enable sustainable industrial operations within Lenovo’s expanding manufacturing presence in the Kingdom.

Lenovo is currently establishing one of its largest manufacturing operations globally in the Kingdom, and this partnership will ensure its industrial growth is supported through a structured approach to emissions management and carbon offsetting.

Leveraging VCM’s expertise in carbon markets and ClimeCo’s capabilities in carbon removal, Lenovo will address its operational emissions through carbon credits, contributing to the development of verified, high-integrity carbon projects within Saudi Arabia.

This collaboration links industrial expansion with environmental impact management efforts, including supporting Lenovo’s sustainability strategy and enhancing local economic benefits. By directing carbon financing into the nation's voluntary carbon market ecosystem, the partnership supports more sustainable manufacturing and advances the Kingdom's broader climate and economic ambitions.

VCM will provide market infrastructure and advisory support to structure and facilitate the carbon credits strategy, ensuring alignment with international standards and best practices. ClimeCo, as a recognized entity in climate strategies and Lenovo’s long-standing emissions offsetting partner, will work with Lenovo to enable a comprehensive, transparent, and credible approach to the sustainability of its industrial operations.

VCM CEO Fadi Saadeh noted that this collaboration accelerates the development of high-integrity carbon credit projects within the Kingdom, stating that there is growing market demand for credits generated domestically,  projects that contribute to measurable emissions management and deliver local environmental and economic value.

He added that building an integrated local carbon ecosystem represents a core pillar of VCM’s mission, and that partnerships of this nature with Lenovo and ClimeCo connect the global industrial sector with locally developed carbon solutions, ensuring the Kingdom’s economic transformation is supported through a credible and growing voluntary carbon market.

Lenovo Saudi Arabia's Services and Solutions Group Director Saeed Basweidan reaffirmed Lenovo's commitment to integrating sustainability across its entire value chain, encompassing the responsible design and manufacturing of technology, investing in more efficient and resilient operations, and working closely with partners and government entities to support long-term economic development.

He added that this approach aims to enable industrial sector expansion in a more responsible manner, contributing to Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation and broader environmental ambitions.

ClimeCo CEO William Flederbach Jr. noted that this agreement affirms VCM’s role as the Kingdom’s national voluntary carbon market platform, enabling both global and local companies to align industrial growth with credible carbon market participation and achieve lasting impact.
