MAKKAH: Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah is advancing the cultural and civilizational identity of the holy city through its Cultural Front initiative.
The initiative offers an integrated interactive experience documenting Makkah’s history and heritage while highlighting the university’s status as one of the Kingdom’s oldest higher education institutions.
The Cultural Front features 10 specialized exhibitions displaying rare archeological artifacts — including monuments, coins, jewelry, and antiques — reflecting the region’s heritage across different historical periods.
It also highlights the university’s scientific and research achievements across various fields.
The front houses more than 5,600 archeological artifacts and over 21,000 original and photographed manuscripts, alongside engravings and sculptures, some dating back around 1,200 years.
Since its launch in December 2025, the Cultural Front has welcomed nearly 10,000 visitors from more than 25 countries.
During Hajj, it offers an interactive experience using virtual reality technology to enrich pilgrims’ engagement with historical and heritage sites in Makkah and Madinah.
The initiative reflects the university’s ongoing role in serving pilgrims and promoting Makkah’s heritage through modern and innovative methods.
