  • Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry describes it as a violation of sovereignty, expresses solidarity with Kuwait and full support for all measures it takes to safeguard stability and security

LONDON: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attempted infiltration of Kuwait’s Bubiyan Island this month by an Iranian armed group sent by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with the aim of carrying out hostile acts.

The ministry said the action violated Kuwaiti sovereignty, and expressed the Kingdom’s solidarity and full support for all measures taken by the country to safeguard its stability and security, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

“These violations undermine international efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in the region,” it added.

Kuwait’s interior ministry announced on Tuesday the arrest of four high-ranking members of the Iranian Navy, who reportedly admitted that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards had tasked them with a mission to infiltrate Bubiyan Island on May 1 using a fishing boat rented specifically to carry out hostile acts against Kuwait.

However, they were engaged by Kuwaiti armed forces, one member of which was injured during the confrontation, the Kuwait News Agency reported. Two IRGC-linked officers managed to escape during the clash.
