KHARTOUM: A drone strike on the southern Sudanese city of Rabak has killed 11 people, a local hospital source told AFP on Tuesday.
A security source said the strike targeted the Joint Forces, a coalition of armed groups fighting alongside the army in the war against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces that began in April 2023.
A number of vehicles belonging to the Joint Forces were struck, including some carrying weapons and ammunition which caught fire, two eyewitnesses said.
Both sides have relied heavily on drone warfare, which has killed dozens at a time across the country but allows both to conserve depleted manpower.
The war has killed tens of thousands across the country, with some estimates of more than 200,000 dead.
The conflict has caused one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises.
The Joint Forces, a coalition led by former rebel leaders in Darfur who have since joined the central government, have been integral to the army’s war effort.
