RIYADH: The National Center for Sustainable Agriculture Research and Development recently led participants from nine countries in the first phase of the GSR Hackathon, organized by King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.

The center oversaw the agriculture track for the Global Student Research event, which included designing challenges, technical supervision and virtual judging, ensuring practical and sustainable solutions.

Participating countries included Saudi Arabia, the UK, Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

A total of 128 teams joined the track to address challenges including water scarcity, resource efficiency, low productivity, limited market access, and harsh climate adaptation.

Of these, 25 teams advanced to the virtual stage for workshops and mentoring to further develop their projects, the SPA stated.

The initiative reflects the center’s role in advancing agricultural innovation and sustainability in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
