ISLAMABAD: The national cricket team will depart from New Zealand today, Monday, after completing their tour of Down Under, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement.
Pakistan’s tour of Down Under started in December when the visitors locked horns with the Australian cricket team in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney from December to January 2024. However, the tour ended on a disappointed note as skipper Shan Masood’s side were whitewashed 3-0 in the series.
Pakistan then played five T20I matches against New Zealand from Jan. 12-21, losing four matches on the trot. The green shirts bounced back in the last T20I, beating the Black Caps by 42 runs to avoid a 5-0 whitewash.
“A group of the cricketers will leave Auckland tomorrow (Monday) night for Pakistan via Dubai and then head to their respective cities,” the PCB said.
It added that the players who will head for Pakistan are expected to reach the country on Jan. 23 while T20 captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Azam Khan will head to Dubai for the ITL20 tournament.
“Pakistani players taking part in the Bangladesh Premier League will depart for Dhaka tomorrow (Monday) from Christchurch,” the statement said. “They include Babar Azam, Mohammad Wasim Jr.., Muhammad Rizwan and Abbas Afridi.”
Most players of the Pakistan national squad will take part in the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in February and March. The national squad will then head over to England to play a four-match T20I series, which would serve as Pakistan’s preparation ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June.
