Who’s Who: Noor Nugali, newly promoted Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Arab News

Prior to being promoted on 17 January 2024 to become Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Arab News, Noor bint Osama Nugali has held the position of Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper since September 2020.

In her previous role as Assistant Editor, she has both successfully managed some of the newspaper’s award-winning coverage and personally conducted several high profile interviews with leading Saudi and foreign officials.

Among her many responsibilities, she co-supervised the editorial coverage of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s regional and international tours since 2018. She oversaw the coverage of Saudi Arabia’s G20 Presidency and Arab News’s 2022 editorial campaign to support Riyadh City’s successful Expo 2030 campaign. She also co-produced a number of the newspaper’s signature Deep Dive long-read series. This included the award-winning “Diriyah: Past, Present and Future” project. In addition to “Prince in Space,” which marked the 35th anniversary of Prince Sultan bin Salman being the first Arab astronaut to go to space, and “Juhayman: 40 years on,” which retold the story of the seizure by extremists of the Holy Mosque in Makkah in 1979.

Managerially, Noor was part of the launch team of Arab News en Francais, the digital French edition of the newspaper that was successfully launched in July 2020. She is also a regular speaker at international and regional conferences and forums, and has regular appearances on various global news channels as a commentator.

Among her most notable interviewees were President of Somalia Hassan Shiekh Mohamud, Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Climate Envoy Adel Al-Jubeir, US Special Envoy for Climate John Kerry, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Deputy Italian PM Antonio Tajani and Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation Rania al Mashat.

In her new role as Deputy Editor, Nugali will continue to report to Editor-in-Chief Faisal J. Abbas and will now oversee an expanded portfolio of editorial and administrative responsibilities across Arab News’s different departments, editions and bureaus.

Nugali joined the newspaper in October 2017 as a senior reporter. Prior to that, she worked for three years at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She has also been a reporter and freelance feature writer for the Saudi Gazette and The National, a UAE-based English daily.
