Makkah seeking private sector investment for new hotels and sports center plan

RIYADH: Hotels, a medical complex and a sports center are set to be built in Makkah as part of a drive to boost private sector activity in the area.

Osama Al-Zaytouni, the official spokesman for the Holy Capital Secretariat, announced there would be five new projects in total, including two to “establish, operate, and maintain” construction sites, according to a report from the Saudi Press Agency.

The spokesman explained that the secretariat is keen to create more investment projects by offering opportunities keep pace with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 economic diversification strategy.

The report added: “The Secretariat aims to develop the region in general, enhance various activities, and contribute to accelerating the pace of development to achieve the concept of sustainability and efficient spending.”

The announcement of a new sports center, set for the Al-Sharay’a neighborhood, is in keeping with the municipality’s drive to boost the quality of life for its residents.

As of March 2023, some 118 sports venues had been built in Makkah, including new football pitches and volleyball and tennis courts.

Additionally, more than 226,000 trees had been planted in the municipality as part of a major landscaping program, according to the report.
