MADINAH: Smart devices will perfume the air along roads and paths used by pilgrims and in seating areas near stores on the north side leading to the Prophet’s Mosque as part of a Madinah Region Development Authority initiative.

The authority has undertaken a series of projects to improve the cityscape around the Prophet’s Mosque and add to visitor comfort.

Initiatives include planting trees along roads, installing seating, paving sidewalks and pedestrian areas with marble that absorbs less heat, and prohibiting unauthorized public vehicles from entering the central area.

In addition, the northern, southern and western courtyards of the mosque are covered with more than 245 umbrellas during the day. Areas are also equipped with fans that spray cool water, creating a comfortable environment for visitors.
