JEDDAH: Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hissein Brahim Taha called on member states and the global community to provide opportunities for older people and strengthen their resilience to the challenges they face in a changing world.

Taha said that societies should strive for justice and equality among all generations.

On International Day for Older Persons, celebrated each year on Oct. 1, Taha said that the OIC understands that protection for the elderly is important to any society.

“In fact, the OIC resolutions have always stressed that the social dimension is key to achieving sustainable development through investing in social protection. Also, the first session of the Ministerial Conference on Social Development, held in Istanbul in 2019, adopted the OIC Strategy on the Elderly.”

The OIC chief urged member states to provide a supportive environment for the elderly, while benefiting from their experiences.
