CAIRO: The United Arab Emirates announced on Thursday a travel ban on citizens to Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Namibia, Zambia, Congo, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Liberia, South Africa and Nigeria, state news agency (WAM) reported.
The Foreign Ministry and the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority stressed that, with the start of the travel season, citizens need to comply with all precautionary and preventive measures related to COVID-19, WAM added.
In a notice issued to Airmen (NOTAM), UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority, said flights from 14 countries, including Liberia, Namibia, Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic Of Congo, Uganda, Zambia, Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and South Africa, would remain suspended until 23:59 hours of July 21, 2021.
However, cargo flights, as well as business and charter flights, would be exempt from the restrictions. UAE authorities also instructed UAE citizens to adhere to self-isolation should they get COVID-19 during their travel, and to ensure compliance with all instructions, requirements and health protocols applied by their host countries.
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) had announced last month that entry from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka would be suspended for all incoming passengers on national and foreign carriers, as well as those carrying transit passengers, starting from May 12.
