RIYADH: Saudi Arabia won an award and seven certificates of excellence at a competition organized by the World Summit on the Information Society.
It is a two-phase UN summit that was initiated in order to create an evolving multi-stakeholder platform aimed at addressing the issues raised by information and communication technologies through a structured and inclusive approach.
One of its chief aims was to bridge the global digital divide separating rich countries from poor countries by spreading access to the Internet in the developing world.
Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), represented the Kingdom at the virtual opening ceremony of the summit.
Al-Tamimi reiterated the Kingdom’s resolve to continue its international efforts to enhance the use of technology and maximizing its role in supporting the development process and people’s welfare.
