UAE warns against use of chlorine dioxide products against COVID-19
  • A product containing chlorine dioxide was found to be sold amid claims it would “eliminate the virus” before entering the human body
  • Dr Omar Al-Hammadi said there was no scientific basis for the claims

DUBAI: UAE authorities have warned against the use of products claiming to fight COVID-19, national daily Khaleej Times has reported.

The warning comes after a product containing chlorine dioxide was found to be sold amid claims it would “eliminate the virus” before entering the human body.

But Dr Omar Al-Hammadi said there was no scientific basis for the claims and he warned that chlorine dioxide could lead to lung, kidney, and heart problems.

Al-Hammadi urged the public to follow proven coronavirus measures, including wearing masks and practicing social distancing, instead of other unreliable and potentially harmful claims.

And the UAE doctor said the decline in the number of cases in the country does not mean the virus is gone, highlighting the importance of public cooperation amid the pandemic.
