DUBAI: According to Mashable, streaming platform Disney+ is set to launch a new short film that centers around a family celebrating Eid.
Entitled “American Eid,” the production, which is still under development, is seeking actors who speak Urdu and English to take on the roles of a Pakistani family who immigrated to America.
The premise of the short film revolves around an eight-year-old named Ameena who desperately wants to celebrate Eid, which isn’t recognized as an official holiday in America. She decides to start a petition to make Eid an official holiday in her new home country.
Meanwhile, her older sister Zara just wants to fit in to her new school in the US. She adopts the nickname “Z” and develops an American accent. The sisters have a falling out after Zara learns of Ameena's petition.
Details including the release date of the short film are still unknown. Meanwhile, casting will be taking place in Los Angeles.
