HYDERABAD: There was a goat called Daredevil and a buffalo called Rani- lovingly coined names given to the cattle by their proud owners at Sindh’s first livestock expo in Hyderabad city on Sunday.
“I call it Janbaaz (daredevil) because it’s very special to me,” a beaming cattle farmer from Mirpurkhas, Ghulam Haider, told Arab News pointing to his handsome two-year-old goat.
Haider is confident that the 150 kg goat would sell for at least Rs 1.6 million ($10,342) if he ever decides to put it up for sale.
On the other end of the spectrum is Muhammad Asad, who said he would never part ways with his buffalo, Rani, even if he was offered over $100,000 for it.
Commenting on the initiative, Sindh’s provincial minister for livestock, Abdul Bari Pitafi, said that the expo was aimed at promoting the best breeds of goats, cows, sheep, buffaloes, horses, and camels in the country.
“Pakistan is an agricultural country and livestock is a major contributor to the country’s GDP. If we get foreign investment, which was the main aim of this exhibition, it can help our economy grow very fast,” Pitafi told Arab News, adding that the expo was also designed to make the farmers more market-oriented by educating them through seminars.
The two-day event, which concluded on Sunday, included a pet show, a horse race, and a performance by Nachi, the dancing goat.
