BEST Cup’19, the under-14 football tournament of India’s CBSE-affiliated schools in the Kingdom, hosted by Al-Khozama International School, came to an end at the Euro Village Sports Complex Stadium in Alkhobar.
The participating teams in the tournament included eight schools: Yara International School, Riyadh; Modern International School, Al-Ahsa; Dunes International School, Dammam; New Al-Wurood International School, Jeddah; Al-Yasmin International School, Riyadh; Al-Muna International School, Dammam; International Indian School, Dammam; and the hosts Al-Khozama International School, Dammam.
International Indian School, Dammam beat Al-Khozama International School in the action-packed final match 2-1.
Yara International School won the “losers’ final,” beating New Al-Wurood International School 1–0.
New Al-Wurood International School won the “Fair Play” team award.
Dr. Abussalam Kanniyan, secretary of the Saudi Indian Football Confederation and president of the Dammam Indian Football Association, was the chief guest for the closing ceremony.
Earlier, Al-Khozama International School Principal Abdul Azeez welcomed the guests. The principal reminded the students that success and failure are two facets of life, and that participation in such competitions is the most valuable prize. Azeez announced that New Al-Wurood International School Jeddah will host the BEST Cup next year.
Chief guest Dr. Kanniyan said learning beyond the classroom is possible through participation in sports and games.
Razi Shaik Pareeth, deputy group manager, BEST Schools, spoke about the various activities conducted by BEST Schools to promote the wellbeing of students. Sahil Anas, a student, recited verses from the holy Qur’an during the closing ceremony.
Dharminder Manon, principal of Dunes International School; Abdul Azeez, finance manager of BEST Schools; Mohammed Anwar, administration manager of Al-Ryan Policlinic; and Aslam Farooque, Arabian Social Forum president; were the guests of honor.
The 8th edition of the BEST Cup was inaugurated by Zubair Ahmed Khan, principal and HOI of International Indian School, Dammam.
