JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia will join the World Health Organization (WHO) in an anti-smoking campaign to mark World No Tobacco Day on May 31.

The campaign seeks to increase public awareness of the dangers of tobacco use.

Every year, WHO and its partners, including the World Heart Federation, mark World No Tobacco Day to highlight the health problems and risks associated with tobacco use, and to advocate policies to reduce tobacco consumption.

About 70,000 people die of smoking-related diseases in the Kingdom every year, the ministry said.

Tobacco use kills more than 7 million people around the world each year through cancer, heart and lung disease, and other health problems.
