Strategies to promote electric vehicles

Charging infrastructure encourages electric car ownership.

These are some of the strategies that have worked in increasing demand for electric vehicles:
• Direct incentives: These were most successful in Norway and in other European countries. They include direct subsidies, free parking, free charging and toll-free motoring.
• Taxation: Raising tax on gas-guzzlers to subsidize zero-emission cars, and lowering electricity prices while hiking gasoline prices.
• Building a good charging infrastructure, as is the case in Norway and Holland.
