Through the ‘Newsroom & Media Management’ course, students will understand the essence of how a news room is distributed and what the core workflows and structures that run a newsroom are. This also includes looking at leadership, editorial, technology and more.

Reporting Coronavirus
Through the ‘Reporting Coronavirus’ course, students understand the risks and practices they and their peers must go through in order to properly, and safely, report on the pandemic. By looking into the mental safety aspect, the medical angle, and filtering out fake news and debunking any myths surrounding the virus, students will be ready to report on the biggest story of 2020.

In ‘Online News reporting, writing and editing,’ students break down what the components of an online news story are and the importance of the headline’s wording and the article’s image are. In a vast and information heavy landscape, understanding the ethics attached to picture research and credit are paramount. Also included in the course is understanding the editing tools available and how to cover virtual conferences and events.

Mobile Journalism
In today’s world, all a journalist really needs is a decent smart phone. Through ‘Mobile Journalism,’ students unpack what Mobile Journalism - or MoJo - is and the essential apps needed to be downloaded to get optimal results for video editing and reporting.

Video Editing
Through ‘Video Editing’, students understand the different types and formats of videos, the terminologies and the basically editing skills needed to create quick and captivating reels on the spot.

Journalism, Fake News and Disinformation
Through ‘Journalism, Fake News and Disinformation,’ journalists understand the importance of truth within reporting and how to gain the trust of both the source and the reader. Fact-checking, social media verification and combatting online misinformation is also covered in this workshop.

Intensive Mid-Level Workshop
In the ‘Intensive Mid-Level Workshop,’ senior editors and journalists understand the added responsibilities expected from them are; from commissioning stories to managing coverage and understanding the weight of their editorial judgement to dealing with legal issues such as libel and slander and time organisation.

Business Journalism
Through ‘Business Journalism’, pupils understand the basics of what it takes to become a business journalist reporting on the everyday changes and occurrences in the business world. This includes the know-how of certain softwares, simplifying complex jargon and understanding where to go for the research.

LinkedIn Journalism
Through the workshop ‘LinkedIn Journalism’, students learn how to optimize their LinkedIn profiles in order to get the best out of the platform. They will also learn how to properly access searches and insights for research or finding sources.

Advanced Interview skills and Covering Press Conferences
Through ‘Advanced Interview skills and Covering Press Conferences’, pupils learn how to properly prepare for conferences beforehand by setting up relevant hashtags, memorizing the programme, and knowing who to ask what. They also understand the basic principles, practices and guidelines of interviewing.

How to conduct Zoom Interviews
The ‘How to conduct Zoom interviews’ is split into two subcategories ‘Technical/Logistical’ and ‘Editorial’. In the first subcategory, students will understand how to get ready and ensure a secure setting, prepping digital equipment if need be, testing sound/light/recording/camera, looking presentable and understanding the basic body language needed. The second category showcases an understanding of the types of interview-based stories and how to conduct them, what’s needed in order to be a good interviewer, and how to filter through a long transcription and find the best quotes to use.

Advanced Editing
Through ‘Advanced Editing’, pupils learn the elements and process of going through an advanced, lengthy copy by understanding the tools needed to do so. Through this, they will understand what the readers want out of this piece, gage their own news judgment and how to lead newsrooms. Editors will also learn how to deal with bad reporters and news crises and thinking digital over print.

Public Speaking and Moderating
Through ‘Public Speaking and Moderating’, journalists learn the skills of becoming an engaging public speaker and moderator by understanding the importance of body language, voice control, audience engagement and timing.

How to handle difficult Interviewees
In ‘How to handle difficult Interviewees’, journalists understand how to take control of the interview in order not to let it slip into the interviewee’s hands. The course helps journalists properly prepare for the interviews through research, taking notes and understanding the principles, practices, legalities and ethics of conducting an interview.

Column Writing
In ‘Column Writing’, journalists unpack the responsibilities of writing opinion pieces as opposed to regular features. This includes understanding the goals, identifying the issues for comment and learning the structure and writing style needed to overcome and avoid any legal traps.

In ‘Post Pandemic Journalism’ which was given by CNN, journalists learn what to do when news breaks, the art of storytelling, how to use different, digital platforms for features - including social media - and how to report from the field.

In ‘Advanced Journalism’ offered by AFP, journalists learn the basics of effective news writing and how to cobble together a news story quickly and correctly. The course offered a mock news conference and taught the basics of reportage writing (how to write visually).

English Language Development Workshop (By US Embassy)
The workshop develops the skills needed for a career in modern journalism / media. It improves the English proficiency of the working reporters in reading, drafting, editing and proofreading of today’s journalism. Participants in the workshop will explore print and digital media through authentic readings and video lectures, while expanding their vocabulary and increasing their ability to read, research, and develop local and global news stories. Participants will analyze the growth, impact, and challenges of digital news, while completing a reflection assignment that allows them to think about and discuss the recent changes to the field of journalism/media.
