Urdu Academy marks education day

The Urdu Academy Jeddah celebrated the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad education day at the Indian Consulate Thursday. India’s National Education Day is observed every year on Nov. 11, in the memory of the birthday of the country’s first education minister.
Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, Indian consul general, said that the Hyderabad community is working hard on preserving the Urdu language. He would like people north India to also support the language.
Students from 12 international schools in Jeddah of 8-12 grade participated in the speech and quiz competitions. The students spoke about Azad and his achievements.
Contestants delivered speeches on the given topics from the life of Azad: his services in education, his freedom struggle, peace and harmony, his political life and others.
The winners of the speech contest were Vazeem Latheef and Duaa Habeeb Majid of the International Indian School of Jeddah (IISJ), Nadeem Fayyaz and Saad Naseem of Delhi Public School of Jeddah (DPS), Arwa Fathima of Al-Wurood International School, Nida Javed Sheikh Dauha of Al-Uloom.
A quiz on Azad, designed by Qutubuddin Qadri, was the hit of the event. This interactive quiz was based on the ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ format. There were four rounds and each team of two students was asked two questions in each round.
The quiz contest of boys was won by Usaid Saud and Talha Shamshad Ali Ansari, of IISJ, Rizwan and Aboobacker of Al-Noor International school, C. Prem and Sherwin Lal,of DPS. There was a cash award of SR 500 for first prize, SR 200 for second and third position with a shield and certificate.
Tahseem A. Rahman and Zareen Begum of Al-Noor International School, Aameena Afroz Kathija and Shadiya Syed of Al-Wurood International School, Saherish Farhan and Nadha K Neelambra of DPS won the quiz contest for girls.
