Blackhawks repel Lightning, win shootout

CHICAGO: Chicago goaltender Corey Crawford made 25 saves and three more stops in the shootout to lead the Blackhawks to a 3-2 win over the NHL-leading Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.
Vancouver drew level with Tampa Bay on points by beating Ottawa, while Montreal closed within a point of the Lightning for the Eastern Conference lead by defeating Winnipeg.
Chicago’s Patrick Kane scored the only goal in the tiebreaker, ending a run of five-straight losses to Tampa Bay; four in overtime or shootouts.
Crawford stopped Ryan Callahan and Nikita Kucherov before Kane beat Ben Bishop with a backhander high on the glove side. Crawford then denied Steven Stamkos to seal it.
Brad Richards and Marcus Kruger scored in regulation for the Blackhawks, while Cedric Paquette and Kucherov netted in regulation for the Lightning, who had won their previous six games.
Vancouver’s Daniel Sedin scored 4:05 into overtime to lift the Canucks to a 4-3 win over Ottawa.
Sedin converted a pass from twin brother Henrik as they each earned their second point of the night. Shawn Matthias, Alex Burrows and Kevin Bieksa scored for the Canucks in regulation.
Mike Hoffman, Kyle Turris and Mark Stone netted for the Senators, who have lost three straight.
Montreal goalie Carey Price made 29 saves for his first shutout this season, helping the Canadiens down Winnipeg 3-0.
Lars Eller, Alex Galchenyuk and Tomas Plekanec scored for the Canadiens, who have won seven of their past eight against the Jets. Winnipeg had won their previous eight games decided in regulation.
New York’s Mats Zuccarello scored the first of the Rangers’ three first-period goals to setup a 5-0 win over Pittsburgh.
Martin St. Louis and Kevin Klein added goals in the first, Derick Brassard had a power-play tally in the second, and Rick Nash — who had two assists — scored a short-handed goal in the third for the Rangers, who broke a two-game losing streak.
Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made 33 saves for his third shutout of the season and 53rd for the Rangers, extending the team record.
The Penguins, who complete a five-game trip Friday in Toronto, hadn’t allowed a power-play goal in 10 games, and their streak reached 39 kills before Brassard’s goal. Pittsburgh’s seven-game winning streak also ended.
Nashville’s Filip Forsberg and Mike Ribeiro each had a goal and an assist to lead the Predators over Edmonton 3-2.
Matt Cullen also scored for the Predators, winners of three straight.
Forsberg has scored in five consecutive games and has at least one point in six straight.
Benoit Pouliot and Nail Yakupov had the goals for Edmonton, which had won two straight. The Oilers have not won in eight games this season against Western Conference rivals.
The New York Islanders won their fourth-straight game by trouncing Colorado 6-0.
Nick Leddy and Anders Lee scored early, and Jaroslav Halak stopped 20 shots for the Islanders, who had not won at home in over two weeks.
