A match made in heaven was how the British consul general described the new association between international law firm Ashurst with Faisal Adnan Baassiri law firm.
The two firms celebrated the launch of their association during a high profile event on Saturday evening at the British Consulate in Jeddah. Saudi and international businesspeople took advantage of the great occasion to network and meet the team.
Ashurst is a leading international law firm with 25 offices in 14 jurisdictions, Joss Dare, head of Ashurst in the Middle East, said. He said the local regulations required the law firm to work with a local partner, but assured the audience that “We wouldn’t do business with anyone we don’t feel comfortable with.”
Ashurst has had a presence in the Middle East for some time and due to importance of Saudi Arabia for their Middle East strategy and the size of the country, they decided to establish an office in the Kingdom, Dare said. Jeddah is the first step for Ashurst in the Kingdom. “Currently, we are looking for the right person to work with in Riyadh.”
Faisal Adnan Baassiri said he was happy for three reasons: To see so many people attending the event, for the association with Ashurst, and for having the opportunity to provide high-quality services to his clients.
“The most important thing is what we are going to deliver to our clients, whether foreign companies or local businessmen,” Baassiri commented. He said when dealing with one law firm, his clients would be simultaneously dealing with 25 offices in 14 countries.
“Every document will have the Ashurst stamp.” He applauded the British law firm’s quality of service and the transparent relationship it has established with its clients, adding, “Today, I am proud and delighted to be part of this family.”
British Consul General Mohammed Shokat said his expectations of this cooperation were very high. “Everyone familiar in the field has heard of Ashurst,” he said, while Faisal Adnan Baassiri “Brings a local knowledge and a local known face.”
He lauded the very strong relationship between the two kingdoms on the social, political, educational and commercial levels, among others.
His deputy, Consul General Michael Cockle, who is also the head of trade and investment section, said he hoped to attract more British companies with this association. “For me it reflects the growing amount of trade between the two countries,” he said.
The associated office has its main focus on energy, transport, and infrastructure matters and offers corporate services in Jeddah and across the Kingdom.
