RIYADH: The Saudi Charitable Society for the Welfare of Saudi Families Abroad (Awasir) has repatriated 27 Saudi families to the Kingdom, local media said quoting a report issued by the society.
The report mentioned the society’s efforts in providing services to Saudi families abandoned in more than 31 countries.
The society is caring for 283 Saudi families in Syria which amounts to 814 persons plus one family in Palestine, the report said.
The society received 1,050 cases and provided financial assistance worth SR8.36 million plus other assistance worth SR131,000 to them. House rents of SR140,000 were provided for the repatriated families as well as other forms of assistance, such as medical treatment and furnishings for houses.
The report also covered conditions related to women’s activities, notably the preparation of studies of different social phenomena such as divorce, random marriages and domestic violence.
The society, which was established in 2001 by a royal decree, provides a variety of services such as monthly financial assistance, winter clothing allowance, school assistance, housing and airplane tickets for those who want to return home. The society also provides legal assistance to help them in obtaining Saudi identity cards and renewing their passports.
Awasir, the first and only Saudi charitable organization authorized for these services, has now compiled full data for children in more than 31 countries, including the US, Canada, the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Syria, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.
Al-Arabiya channel said that for economic reasons, nearly one million Saudis are living outside the Kingdom, the majority of them in Egypt.
