KSA donates $2 million to UNRWA

AMMAN: Saudi Ambassador to Jordan Sami Al-Saleh delivered a check for $2 million to the representative of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, UNRWA, and Director of External Relations and Projects Omar Al-Rifae on Sunday as a contribution to support the agency's budget for the year 2015.
The general representative expressed his appreciation for the Kingdom's continuous support of the agency's programs, and thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman for his continuous support for the agency's programs, as well as for his support for Palestinian refugees everywhere.
The Kingdom has remained one of the most important countries in terms of the UNRWA's budget since the agency was established in 1949. The agency provides direct relief and development programs for as many as 5 million Palestinian refugees who live in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
The Popular Palestinian Committees in Lebanon also expressed appreciation to the Saudi government for the support given to Palestinian pilgrims during the current Haj season in the Kingdom.
The secretary-general of the Popular Palestinian Committees, Abu Iyad Al-Shalan, said in a press statement that the Kingdom provided Palestinian pilgrims with full care during their Haj trip, and particularly valued the hospitality of the king to almost 1,200 Palestinian pilgrims who came from the families of martyrs.
