A truck carrying rotten eggs has been seized by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) after a Jubail citizen reported that he had purchased approximately 400 egg cartons from a company in Riyadh, only to find that eggs were spoiled.
Random samples were taken for testing and the results said they were not suitable for human consumption. The ministry destroyed all of the eggs following the report and fined the company.
The MCI recently implemented inspection campaigns at markets and commercial facilities across the Kingdom to ensure that there is no fraud or customer exploitation during the sale and marketing of spoiled or expired products.
The ministry said that it would harshly punish violators of the food laws, and would reprimand those involved in the sale of spoiled food products, as well as sellers found flouting the rules.
The MCI has appealed to consumers to contact the ministry’s communications center to report any complaints or comments by calling the central office, or by using the MCI’s smartphone application.
