Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed has ordered the release of a young Saudi woman who has been in imprison for 14 months over a financial dispute with her brother. The prince also instructed that her case be looked into by a committee responsible for the welfare of prisoners.
“In response to the governor’s order, the women’s section at the committee has arranged a private house for the released woman,” an informed source said, adding that the committee is now seeking to get her a job so she can take care of herself financially.
The woman has been in contact with the committee through her lawyer who secured her release from the prison after paying SR180,000, the money she owed to her brother, sabq.org reported Wednesday.
Abeer Al-Ghamdi, head of the women’s section, said the committee helps female prisoners to get out of prison after paying their dues. “We also support such prisoners after they are releases to ensure that they play a constructive role in society,” she said.
Speaking about the released woman, Al-Ghamdi said: “She is a true model for an orphaned young woman who has no house nor any other source of income to support her. We have solved her problem by the grace of God.”
