Municipal and Rural Affairs Minister Prince Mansour bin Miteb has ordered municipalities across the Kingdom to provide utilities, such as electricity connection, to all houses regardless of ownership status.
Houses without title deeds and other ownership documents had previously been barred from having electricity connection.
A royal decree was then issued approving the request made by the minister to provide electricity to all houses. Power connection will not, however, be resumed to houses built on publicly owned or illegally encroached land.
Buildings should not have violated construction regulations in order to benefit from the new order, the Saudi Press Agency reported Saturday. The minister also made it clear that power reconnection to houses without deeds would, however, not serve as proof of ownership and that reconnection would not hinder government housing aid applications, the SPA report added.
