NEW YORK: Former One Direction member Zayn Malik and singer Perrie Edwards have called off their engagement.
A representative for Malik confirmed Tuesday the couple had ended their engagement. No other details were provided.
Both Malik and Edwards are 22. The singers became engaged in 2013.
Edwards is one of four singers in the girl group Little Mix. Like One Direction, Little Mix formed on the UK version of “The X Factor.” The girls won the competition in 2011.
Perrie recently told Newsbeat she was looking forward to her wedding day more than her honeymoon because “it’s where we say we’re going to be together forever.”
She was asked about the break-up on US TV channel E! and said she was “good, thank you.”
But bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock told the interviewer they didn’t really want to talk about it.
Malik left One Direction earlier this year to launch a solo career. He announced last week that he signed a recording contract to release music as a solo artist.
Photos emerged of him holding hands with 26-year-old Lauren Richardson in Thailand.
He tweeted explaining his love for Perrie the day before leaving the On the Road Again world tour to return to the UK.
Perrie uploaded a photo of her and Zayn three weeks ago with the caption ‘Love ma man!’
