MUMBAI: Veteran actress Rati Agnihotri filed a complaint at Worli police station in Mumbai against her husband for harassment and torture, police said on Sunday.
According to the Worli police, Agnihotri, who is married to Anil Virmani, had come to the police station along with members of the social wing of a political party.
Agnihotri, who made her foray into the Hindi film industry with award winning-block buster movie ‘Ek Duje ke Liye’ in 1981 told the police in her complaint that her husband had beaten her up on March 7 over a dispute.
The Worli police have recorded the statement of the actress and registered a case under Sections 498 (harassment to a married woman), Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) section 506 (criminal intimidation) and Section 350 (criminal force) of the Indian Penal Code.
“We have filed the case and are investigating the matter. Agnihotri’s statement has been recorded where she has complained about torture and assault by her husband,” said Vinay Kulkarni, senior police inspector of Worli police station. Police said that they have summoned Virmani to record his statement.
