JEDDAH: More than 10,000 children will participate in a competition called ‘Saudi Passport’ on the occasion of the country’s National Day falling on the 23rd of this month.
The competition is organized under the aegis of Princess Noura bin Abdullah, executive president of the Saafa Charity Establishment.
The competition aims to spread the culture of patriotism among young children.
“The event seeks to develop children’s curiosity and thirst for knowledge and encourage them to read and gather historical and tourist information,” Thoraya Batarjee, who launched the idea of the competition, said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency yesterday.
Any child can participate in the contest after obtaining a book called ‘Saudi Passport’ supplied by the contest organizer. However, the children will have to read other books on history and tourist and archaeological locations in the Kingdom and then briefly write an article about the Kingdom’s history and tourism and submit it before Sept. 23 on which the National Day is celebrated.
The organizers have made visits to a number of primary and intermediate schools to familiarize children about the contest.
