InterContinental beats Marriott to open title defense in the 29th Annual Riyadh Inter-Hotels Basketball Tournament

RIYADH: Defending champion InterContinental opened defense of its title with a
63-53 victory over Marriott Riyadh at the start last Friday of the 29th Annual Riyadh Inter-Hotels Basketball Tournament 2016 at the InterCon court.
With a powerhouse starting lineup InterCon took down Marriott in methodical fashion, claiming a 35-22 lead at the turn and never looking back in a rousing performance.
Preciding the matches was a simple yet colorful opening ceremony at InterContinental Riyadh Hotel’s newly re-painted basketball court, highlighted by the parade of teams as follows: Courtyard Hotel, Holiday Inn –Al Qasr, Holiday Inn –Meydan, Burj Rafal Kempinski, Marriott Riyadh, Novotel Suites, Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Vivienda Hotel Villas and the 2015 Champion Team InterContinental Riyadh.
InterContinental Riyadh Resident Manager BartVan DenBrink delivered an inspirational welcome address. Also in attendance were Mohammed Aleemuddin, Area Director Organization & Development , Ibrahim Al Malki (HR Manager), Ali Shamrani (Asst. HR Manager) & Chef Heinz Kohler (InterContinental), Juan Uribe (GM-Burj Rafal Kempinski), Mohamed Beydon (Director of Training- Sheraton), Abdullah Al Malk (Asst. HR Manager – Holiday Inn Meydan), Yasser Ahmed (GM- Novotel), Yazid Shalhoub (HR Manager- Novotel) and Mohamed Al Madani (Director of HR- Marriott Hotel).
Marriott Hotel was adjudged the Best Team in Uniform. The traditional award for the first three-point basket of the game went to Reiner Nunez of InterCon for the first game and Jay Ar Gallardo of Courtyard for the second game.
The tournament is hosted by Riyadh InterContinental Hotel through the generosity of General Manager Tariq Dowidar and enjoys full support of HR Manager Ibrahim Al Malki, Area Director of Organization and Development Mohamed Aleemuddin, TFC and Philippine Airlines (PAL).
Playing days are Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. New set of Organizing Committee for 2016 are Alvin Buot (Chairman), Leo Valencia (Vice-Chairman), James Corpus (Treasurer), Mario Jose (Coordinator). 2016 Table Committee members are: Allan Delos Reyes (Announcer), Kris Paulo Bañal (electronic scoreboard), Edgar Simbol (24-seond shotclock operator), Joel Guiquing and Alex Go (score sheet).
