RIYADH: The Council of Cooperative Health Insurance (CCHI) has suspended the operations of five health insurance companies due to abuses and various irregularities.
The rehabilitation of one company was also abolished with the imposition of corresponding fines as stipulated under the CCHI’s governing rules and regulations.
“The actions taken against erring health insurance firms vary according to the gravity of the violations committed,” said Yasir Al-Maarik, CCHI spokesman.
He added that in most cases, the guilty companies have to comply with the rules and regulations of the local cooperative health insurance system after their suspension, if they want to continue their operations.
“They have to comply with implementing rules and regulations and promise commitment to the system before they will be allowed to issue insurance policies again to the public,” he said.
He called on all workers in the private sector and who are interested in benefitting from being insured to inquire about CCHI rules and regulations.
He said they could call 920001177 for more information, or to lodge a complaint, or use social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook to relay their messages to the concerned authorities. He added that the CCHI is working to develop a new system which aims to promote the health insurance market.
“The aim is to raise the level of satisfaction among policy holders by linking insurance companies with e-health service providers,” he said.
He added that by doing so, the CCHI hopes to continue enhancing the quality of services to policy holders by controlling and monitoring health insurance transactions.
It also aims to monitor insurance firms’ compliance with the laws that regulate the local insurance industry, and establish a platform to make the right decisions on health insurance.
