JEDDAH: Two security men laid down their lives in Dammam on Saturday night after their vehicle came under heavy gunfire.
According to an Interior Ministry spokesman, a security patrol on a routine job in Dammam’s Al-Khadariya district came under fire from an unknown source. The attack resulted in the serious injury of Musa Ali Mohammed Al-Qibbi and Nawaf Mahmas Dhaifalla Al-Otaibi.
They were transported to hospital, but succumbed to their injuries, said Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki.
Security authorities launched a criminal investigation into the deadly attack, he said.
Meanwhile, security sources said one of the suspects, as identified by eyewitnesses, was driving a white sedan, is white skinned and was wearing a T-shirt.
As he passed by the patrol car, he fired five bullets and, later, the assailant was joined by four other people who were walking in the area carrying weapons. They all fled in the car toward Jubail, sources said.
Al-Khadariya is an old district of Dammam and known for its many car and blacksmith workshops. It is one of the most populous districts.
