JEDDAH: Saudi preacher Ayed Al-Qarni has alleged that Iran was behind the assassination attempt he survived in the Philippines earlier this year.
The senior scholar has said that Saudi Ambassador to the Philippines Abdullah Al-Busairi informed him of the investigation results, confirming that Iran masterminded the attack.
“Al-Busairi told me that the investigators, including eight Saudi security officers, concluded that the shooter, Rojasan Misuari, was an engineering student at Western Mindanao State University, and regularly frequented the Iranian Center in the Philippine city of Zamboanga,” Al-Qarni said.
“The student had gained a visa to study in the Iranian city of Qom, and was a member of a new party founded by the Iranian community in the Philippines,” he added.
Al-Qarni pointed out that some procedures will be taken following the official announcement of the investigation results by the Philippine government.
“Iran thought it was capable of doing anything it wanted in the region. But the Saudi-led coalition’s operations ‘Decisive Storm’ and ‘Restoring Hope’ in Yemen proved that Iran’s thoughts were wrong,” Al-Qarni said.
“Iran uses plots, assassinations and conspiracies to implement its agenda in the region,” he said.
Early in March, Al-Qarni was shot and wounded after giving a lecture in Zamboanga. Security forces killed the gunman.
