JEDDAH: Minister of Justice Walid Al-Samaani said Friday that the recently passed JASTA bill violates international law.
The minister in a statement said: “the bill violates the principles of international law and all international norms as well as the principle of sovereign equality between states enshrined in the UN Charter.”
Al-Samaani warned of the dangers of politicizing laws, pointing out that the US Congress - by passing this bill - has assumed that the US judiciary is the center of prosecution in the world where the states shall be treated as individuals before this act.
The minister said: “This was not in the history of international relations and will be a dangerous precedent and a serious breach of the rules and basic principles of the international law.”
