JEDDAH: Authorities have cut off the electricity of most of the workshops at Jeddah’s Al-Nuzha industrial area and the power supply of the remaining facilities would be cut soon, reports said.
On the other hand, employees at these workshops have asked for alternative workshops as soon as possible.
Mohamed Aslam, who is an employee at one of these workshops, said his employer asked him to find another job and transfer his sponsorship as he would not be able to pay salaries and has no other workshop either.
Some workers said “there was a grace period until the end of the year to transfer the workshops to Usfaan, which has not expired and no workshops have been transferred.”
“The closure of these workshops has made things more complicated for owners and employees in this industrial area as they don’t have any other location to move to at the moment,” said Ikram Mozaher, another worker.
Some of the workers said they are seeking other jobs in Makkah to avoid losing all their money.
Authorities say that the owners of these workshops were urged to transfer their workshops to the new industrial centers, and take advantage of the rent-free grace period.
Rental contracts would start on Muharram 1, 1438 A.H., while later phases for transfer would be rolled out as per the official plan, according to a statement.
A source said that over the coming week, all workshops in Al-Nuzha would have power and water services cut off to force them to move to Usfaan.
