Aviation academy records sharp rise in number of trainees

JEDDAH: Prince Sultan Aviation Academy has registered a sharp rise in the number of trainees, hours of training, crew member integrated programs, air service crew, operations staff, safety procedures and management of crew resources services during the first half of 2016, compared with the same period last year.
This has come as part of the initiatives of transformation programs and objectives of the strategic plan of Saudi Arabian Airlines to transform its academy by making it world class in the air transport industry, which provides specialized training services as per international standards, according to Saudi Press Agency.
During the first half of 2016, there was a huge increase in the number of trainees, reaching 11,000 from various sectors and Saudia’s companies, and other local and international companies. This was a growth of 28 percent over the same period last year. The hours of training reached to 27,216, which is a growth of 30 percent over the same period last year. The number of hours of training on device simulators for all types of planes reached to 15,154 hours, which is a growth of 14 percent over last year.
It renewed its ISO9001:2008 quality certificate with the beginning of its work for transformation of its new quality standards ISO9001:2015. The academy also renewed its European safety device simulators-Boeing certificate B747-400, in addition to the renewal of its permit 142, of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, for another five years, as well as the license of the academy to conduct English language tests for navigational crew.
Capt. Badr bin Ahmad Al-Olayan, chairman of the unit of the Prince Sultan Aviation Academy, said that the strategic plan of the academy includes a number of initiatives and development programs. He said that the transformation program was being implemented now in all sectors of Saudi Arabian Airlines, its companies and strategic units, to match the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
