JEDDAH: Hassan Ibrahim Dahlan, acting general secretary of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), revealed that more than 450 companies invested in the security guard sector, with 45,000 employees; one quarter of these guards are employed in Jeddah.
Dahlan said this on Tuesday during a meeting that was organized by the JCCI, with the Human Resources Development Fund and the Ministry of Labor and Social Development.
The main aim of the meeting was to discuss obstacles, salaries, development of this vital sector, investment opportunities, the role of the National Guards Committee and the Investment Committee at the JCCI.
Dahlan also said that all government departments should take advantage to promote this important sector and develop it. He explained the security sector is one of the largest and most important sectors in the Kingdom as it helps in elimination of unemployment, and is considered an essential and a vital partner of all other sectors.
The meeting was attended by Dahlan, Thamer Banawi, representative of Human Resources Development Fund; Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Olayan, director general of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development branch in Makkah; Mubarak Al-Siraj, director of the business sector at the JCCI; Major Saleh Salami, director of security guards control and management department at Jeddah police; and Dr. Abdullah Al Shahri, deputy chairman of the National Guard Committee for Security.
Al-Olayan stated that all rules and regulations will be followed in the involvement of young Saudis in this sector for their best interests. He said this will open promising career opportunities, the establishment of new companies and institutions that help in providing the best security guards for the country.
Al-Banawa explained that the Human Resources Development Fund is playing a most prominent role in supporting security guard companies and investors.
Al-Shahri said that in past three years the demand for security guards increased in the Kingdom.
Security guards are working in markets, commercial centers corporate offices, institutions, and even at residential compounds.
